2013 LAFW Duff Goldman Cooking Demo

by Franklin on September 23, 2013

Meeting Duff Goldman throughout the LA Food & Wine Festival, I was excited to see him in the last and final event. He showed us how to make Bananas Foster. The event started off quite interestingly. I don’t know if he was killing time, or just in a silly mood, but Duff started telling us all about bananas. I thought it was quite interesting and fun; check the video below. He waved his knife around like a maniac, poured shots of banana liqueur into people’s mouths, and dropped the F bomb more than I can count. All in good fun! After learning that Duff was quite the character, and after some sexually inappropriate jokes, the bananas foster was served. Of course, he incorporated cake as the base of the dessert. It was filled with laughs and I learned a thing or two about making bananas foster. A great end to the 2013 LA Food and Wine Festival.

2013 LA Food & Wine – Lexus Grand Tasting

by Franklin on September 11, 2013

The LA Food and Wine Grand Tasting, to me, is the cream of the crop. Not only do you have some of the finest chefs showcasing their food, but there isn’t a theme attached to it. This means that chefs have free rein on what they want to cook. The 3rd Annual LA Food & Wine event was a success, and bring part of the Grand Tasting was a treat.

On August 25, 2013, 25 celebrity chefs whipped up some of their greatest creations at LA Center Studios. Foodies had a chance to also try 300 kinds of wines from some of the world’s most prestigious wineries. Walking around in the two adjacent rooms, filled with cold AC air, and some of greatest bites of food, the day of eating was a food blogger’s dream.

My Favorite of the day was Cliff’s Edge’s crispy pork belly. Roasted, or maybe fried to a crisp, the pork belly was garnished with a fish sauce concoction and edible flowers. It was quite delicious, and I had to go back for another. A close second, was their grilled peaches with goat cheese and almonds. The trio is a classic combo and was perfect for summer.

Walking around, eating delicious food and drinking endless amounts of wine sounds like fun. Well, it is! Trying out the Delta Air first class seats, getting into the new Lexus and snapping pictures between all that was tiring but fun. I guess it’s all in a day of a food blogger. Following this event was Duff Goldman’s cooking demo. Subsequently, following this post will be LA Food & Wine’s final event, Duff Goldman’s cooking demo.

LA Food & Wine 2013 – Giada’s Festa Italiana

by Franklin on September 4, 2013

Giada De Laurentiis. Thomas Keller. Scott Conant. Duff Goldman. These are just a few of the celebrity chefs that made it to the Italian based LA Food and Wine event. Taking place on Grand in downtown, the outside air and the sunset silhouette of the downtown skyline was spectacular.

The most spectacular booth was that of Thomas Keller’s Bouchon. Serving some awesome mussels, shrimp, and oysters on a half shell, the food was fresh and delicious. What was most impressive was the ice sculpture of the serving table.

One thing I did not know was that it was Giada’s birthday that night! How cool would it be to host an LAFW festival and celebrate your birthday too? Duff Goldman made an awesome cake for her and Josh Guerrero, an LA Opera tenor serenaded Giada with a birthday song and something in Italian. It was good enough to even make Giada blush.

The night was filled with an awesome set by DJ ?uestlove. Filled with awesome food and music, along with some of the best chefs in the world, the night on Grand Ave. was certainly the gastronomic center of LA.
